Youth Learn to Fund Their Future, Thanks to Colorado Credit Union

At TGTHR, we believe that when young people are equipped with the right tools and surrounded by people who believe in them, they thrive. One of the most important building blocks to long-term stability is financial literacy. Thanks to our incredible partners at Colorado Credit Union (CCU), young people in TGTHR programs are gaining the skills, knowledge, and confidence to take charge of their financial futures.

This spring, TGTHR and CCU launched Fund Your Future, a pilot financial literacy program designed specifically for young people transitioning out of homelessness and into adulthood, many of whom are doing so without traditional support systems. Made possible by grant funding secured by CCU from the National Credit Union Foundation, the Fund Your Future program was developed with compassion and intentionality to meet youth where they are.

Over the course of four weeks, residents at TGTHR’s supportive housing community in Denver participated in interactive workshops, self-paced online learning modules, and fun financial trivia games to reinforce their learning. Topics ranged from credit cards and budgeting to banking and saving, all geared towards helping youth build lifelong money management skills. Each participant opened their first savings account at Colorado Credit Union and earned financial incentives for completing sessions and modules, transforming knowledge into action and building their first financial safety nets.

One participant, Monte, shared:

“I’ve never actually had a bank account. I was looking to learn about credit and everything and [Fund Your Future] actually gave me a lot of knowledge. I realized how much money I was wasting on unnecessary things when I could be saving for a car. It opened my eyes a lot. It changed a lot for me.

The impact of Fund Your Future reflects the strength of the broader relationship between TGTHR and Colorado Credit Union. Since 2022, CCU has supported TGTHR’s mission to end youth homelessness through event sponsorships, youth-centered workshops, attendance at youth wellness events, and annual financial contributions that fuel our programs and operations.

Fund Your Future is the latest example of what can happen when mission-aligned organizations come together with shared values and a commitment to young people’s success.

Partnering with thoughtful organizations like Colorado Credit Union brings vital resources to young people who might not have had access otherwise,” shared TGTHR CEO, Annie Bacci. “CCU truly showed up — creating a welcoming, judgment-free space where young people could learn, ask questions, and take action. This is what it looks like to walk alongside youth and invest in their future.”

At TGTHR, we envision a society that values every young person, and partnerships like this help make that vision real. When we center equity, expand access, and build trust, we don’t just teach skills, we’re opening doors and building futures.
