From Homelessness to Hope: Chloe’s Journey to Becoming a Pediatric Nurse

Sometimes the most powerful stories are the ones that remind us why we do the work we do. Chloe’s journey is one of those stories—a testament to motivation, community support, and the power of stable housing.

Finding Stability and Purpose

“I have a roof over my head now, and that’s the most important thing,” Chloe reflects on her time at TGTHR’s Supportive Housing program, Nest56. What started as a basic need for shelter has blossomed into a foundation for building her future.

Through her connection with Rooted 303, Chloe was introduced to Cross-Purpose, an organization that would become instrumental in her educational journey. “I got into school and am now in a CNA program,” she says with pride. Currently deep in her Certified Nursing Assistant certification, Chloe is taking on clinical rounds this week—a significant milestone toward her ultimate goal of becoming a pediatric nurse at Children’s Hospital.

Building Community and Finding Joy

The impact of stable housing extends far beyond having a place to sleep. “I love the groups here and spending time at the library,” Chloe shares, highlighting how the supportive environment has allowed her to engage with her community in meaningful ways. These connections have become the building blocks of her personal and professional growth.

“This place has done a lot for me,” she acknowledges, but the relationship is reciprocal. Chloe has become an active voice within her community, talking up the program and its benefits to others who might benefit from similar support.

Creating Ripple Effects

Chloe’s influence is expanding beyond her immediate community. Through her education at Cross-Purpose, she’s been exploring opportunities to amplify youth voices throughout the organization. Working with the development team, she’s investigating potential funding sources that could make this vision a reality, transforming her personal experience into advocacy for others.

The Power of Connection

What makes Chloe’s story so compelling isn’t just her individual success, but the web of connections that made it possible. From Rooted 303 to Cross-Purpose, from her PSH community to the library, each relationship has played a crucial role in her journey. These partnerships demonstrate how collaborative approaches to supportive housing can create opportunities that extend far beyond basic shelter.

As Chloe continues her clinical rounds and works toward her dream of pediatric nursing, her story serves as a powerful reminder of what’s possible when we invest in both housing and community. Her journey from homelessness to healthcare professional embodies the kind of growth and transformation that warms our hearts and fuels our commitment to this work.

The connections being forged, the goals being achieved, and the hope being renewed—these are the moments that make everything worthwhile. Chloe’s story is still being written, and we’re honored to be part of it.
