Dear TGTHR Supporters,
I’m writing today with incredibly difficult news about TGTHR’s next steps regarding The Source’s temporary closure and its future.
As I recently shared, we had to temporarily pause operations at The Source after a routine licensing audit found clerical errors in our employee background check files. While our staff tackled this issue swiftly, and we received approval from CDHS to reopen The Source programs on May 9th, we had to address more pressing financial concerns related to the future of the program altogether.
After deep analysis, difficult conversations, and with the full involvement and support of our Board of Directors, we have made the decision to suspend operations at The Source and implement furloughs for impacted staff. This is not a decision made lightly. It reflects the financial reality we are facing, marked by significant funding cuts from key government sources and continued uncertainty across both public and private revenue streams.
To be transparent: while the recent background check delays affected our reopening timeline, they are not the reason for this decision. The core issue is economic. We can no longer sustain The Source with the level of secure funding required to operate it safely, effectively, and in alignment with our values and standards of care.
The hardest part of this decision, by far, is the impact on the people — the incredible staff and young people. The Source team has been nothing short of extraordinary, bringing relentless compassion and professionalism to some of our community’s most vulnerable youth. We are committed to supporting each furloughed staff member and young person with guidance, resources, and care during this transition.
The Source has long been a cornerstone of TGTHR’s mission and this community, and its absence will be deeply felt by our staff, volunteers, young program participants, and the broader community. The decision to suspend these vital programs has been an unbelievably challenging one, and we remain hopeful this community will be able to once again have an operational youth shelter in the future.
TGTHR’s mission and unwavering commitment to ending youth homelessness have not changed. Even in this challenging moment, we remain committed to navigating forward, together. We are actively exploring solutions that may allow us to return to shelter services in the future, and we will keep you informed every step of the way. Amid these changes, we continue to provide housing and supportive services through Nest56, 1440 Pine, and Chase House.
With deep appreciation,

Annie Bacci
